Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s live coronavirus test comes back negative

The coronavirus test that Gov. Andrew Cuomo took during a live press briefing has come back negative, he announced Monday.

“When you find out you’re negative, it’s actually a nice sense of relief,” Cuomo told reporters at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo on Monday. “It is peace of mind.”

“I didn’t have any symptoms or anything but, you know, you don’t need to have symptoms” to be infected, continued Cuomo, who had been tested prior to Sunday.

A doctor administered the deep nasal swab test to Cuomo during the live briefing Sunday, helping him illustrate the point that getting screened is simple, fast and painless.

“There’s no reason why people shouldn’t be getting tested,” the governor reiterated Monday. “You protect your family, protect your colleagues, so get tested.”

Cuomo repeated the message as another 106 New Yorkers succumbed to the bug in the 24-hour period ending at midnight Monday.

“Every day, the number of deaths is still painfully high,” said Cuomo, as the overall number of confirmed deaths rose to 22,725. “But it is down.”
