New York’s COVID-19 hospitalizations, positivity rate drops

The number of New Yorkers hospitalized with COVID-19 continues to sink, along with the state’s positivity rate, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday.

The patient count on Friday — 3,834 people — was the lowest since Nov. 30, Cuomo said.

Of the 296,240 COVID-19 test results that came back Friday, 8,235 — or 2.78 percent — were positive. That is a decline from 2.81 percent the previous day.

The positivity rate Friday, when measured on a seven-day average, was 3.03 percent. It was 3.21 percent in New York City. Both measures were down slightly from a day earlier.

There were 58 COVID-19 deaths Friday including 35 among residents of New York City.
