A Texas man was charged with murder for allegedly beating his mom’s ex-boyfriend to a pulp and dragging him behind a pickup truck where he was found dead, authorities said.
Robert Hoffpauir, 37, is accused of killing Roman Rodriguez, 60, at about 10 p.m. Sunday after the victim visited his ex-girlfriend’s home in Rye, according to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
Hoffpauir, who lives with his mother, was home at the time and allegedly snapped at Rodriguez and “beat him into submission,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Investigators said the suspect then tied a tow strap around Rodriguez, attached the other end around the victim’s pickup truck and drove a “lengthy distance” before setting the vehicle on fire, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities said an autopsy will determine if Rodriguez was killed before or after he was dragged.
Hoffpauir is being held on a $1 million bond.
