THREE terraced cottages are on sale in Wales for less than a one-bed flat in London – but they need a lot of work.
The historic cottages in Ponterwyd, Wales, are on sale for just £200,000, compared with flats a fraction of the size costing £1million in central London.
Potential buyers could seek permission to transform the listed buildings in Ponterwyd into one – or keep them separate.
New central heating would need to be installed as well as full renovation of electrics, plumbing, replastering and kitchen and bathroom fitting.
The grade-II listed buildings are set in remote Wales in the village of Ponterwyd, 12 miles from Aberystwyth.
Estate agents Aled Ellis said the buildings were once a village surgery, describing it as an "unusual property".
They said: "Total renovation is required and listed building consent for any alterations and improvements.
"The property within close proximity to all local amenities on offer which include garage/ general stores, public house and primary school.
"Penybont is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty being within close proximity to Plynlimon, the Nant Y Moch reservoir with a scenic mountain road over to Penrhyncoch and also to the tourist attraction of Devils Bridge.
"Approximately an acre of ground is include in the sale."
Buyers in central London would be hard pressed to find such value for their money.
A second floor flat with one bedroom above a restaurant near Hyde Park in Mayfair is being advertised online for £1,025,000.
Another on Avery Row nearby is on the market for £1,595,000.
